Unofficial Members may be expected to take a firm stand on this matter and they propose to raiss it with Mr. Rees Williams during his forthcoming visit. I would therefore suggest that he should be fully briefed upon the question of outstnading claims arising from last war.

It is hardly necessary for me to emphasize the serious political repercussions to which any public discussions of the attitude of H.M. Government towards these outstanding war claims might in present circumstances give rise. I therefore trust that it may be possible for Mr. Rees Williams to give Unofficial Members some definite assurance regarding the acceptance of these claims by H.M. Government. I realize that time is very short before his departure, but the question of denial claime has been under active consideration for 18 months.
